"Light is in the foreground and background of all my work because it can uplift

and positively change our perception of things"

MCP Cropped BW.jpg

"I take abstract photos of light and use the imagery in compositions and transformations to express hope and positivity whilst reflecting on the nature and challenges of humankind."

Mercedes Parodi began studying photography end 2009. Her motivation was to create something good enough to hang on her own wall. A year later she went to Versailles to photograph the light and energy of the Night Fountains Show and was transported by her sensorial perception of this powerful nocturnal environment more celestial than terrestrial. Today she could be described as a visual alchemist who manipulates and transmits the raw essence of light in a profound meditation on the human spirit. Driven by hope, her conceptual compositional work communicates and navigates the challenges of our inner and outer worlds using imagery composed of light and all the positivity it symbolises.

Protean light is her medium and subject, the camera the creative vessel.

Process-wise her work is a fascinating interplay of spontaneity, meticulous artistic intervention and subconscious revelation. It begins with the free capture of light, often in fusion with water, revealing unexpected abstract forms and energies. These primal source images serve as the foundational “DNA” for her highly constructed compositions and autonomous digital transformations allowing for expression of humanistic concepts such as self-empowerment, vision, mindset, the architecture of human emotions and the very nature of Being.

Through the different states of instinctive connection, intentional control and unconscious abandon, Parodi creatively explores the deepest layers of humankind from a psychological perspective, and, in the bigger scheme of things, transmits her aspirational vision of a more sustainable version of humanity.
